Mrs. McCormick (William's mother) doing very poorly due to lack of breath and depression since her family went to Canada, the author's disappointment at not being told by William of Niel's death (of which he was informed by Donald McTaggart), widespread fever that had affected most of the family and had killed Alexander McCallum in Witchburn, the author's attempt to get to Canada which was thrwarted on the day he was to leave when his money was "stoped", the author requesting money from friends and family in order that he can emigrate, information re. the McTaggart family, and Genat [Janet?] McQuilkan. It is concluded, "I hop[e] on god this is the last letter all [sic] send to you from Scotland.
