A serious and what might have been a fatal accident happened on Monday afternoon to Archie Jenkins, a youth well known in connection with the local post office. He was assisting his brother Adam to cart some hay and was riding on the load, and while passing through an opening in a picket fence, some hay slipped off and falling with it he was caught on top of the picket, one of which penetrated his left breastand glancing off the ribs and breast bone tore its way nearly to the colar bone. Another picket caught his right arm and inflicted an ugly wound. Dr Somers was at once in attendance and had to put several stitches in each wound, which required a deal of dressing owing to such severe laceration of the flesh. This accident is rather unfortunate for Archie at the present time, as he has severed his connection with the post office and has received an appointment with the Eastern Telegraph Cable Companyat Flinders, and was to have entered on his duties the following day. Being a general favourite at Mornington, we hope he will make a speedy recovery.
