    John Jenkins, 48 years of age, residing at Mornington, committed suicide by cutting his throat with a pocket knife. He had been gloomy and despondent since he had suffered.from an attack of fever some time ago.

    The residents ot Mornington were shocked this morning on learning that Mr. John Jenkins, wheelwright, of Main street, had committed suicide. The deceased went into his bedroom about half past 10 o'clock this morning, and delibirately cut his throat with his pen-knife, severing the main artery and the windpipe. Mr. J, E Somers was at once summoned, but medical aid was to no avail, life being almost extinct. The deceased, who was a very old resident, leaves a wife and four children. For some months past the deceased has been in a very depressed state of mind, and suffered from melancholia. the result of an attack of influenza. A magisterial inquiry will be held.

    John Junkan, widower in Achantian this day intimated his purpose of marriage with Margaret McLish widow in the parish of Kilfinan the same to be made public according to force of law was not married!


    The next page states on 12 September, 1776 John Jenkin widower in Achatian in this parish with Violet White daughter to Archibald White in Dergacha in Dunoon & Kilmun, married at Ballochyle. The marriage also registered in Dunoon and Kilmun
