    Died:
On October 5, 2005, George Ashby, age 94, pass-ed away at the Bengough Health Centre. George Henry Ashby was born August 15, 1911, at McTaggart, Saskatchewan. He was the son of Susan Marie (Matchett) and Henry George Ashby. In 1912 the family moved to farm south of Bengough. Times were hard in those days and the family all helped in what ever way they could. They farmed with horses, milked cows and fed pigs to help his parents. There were no telephones and no power in those days and just coal oil lamps and lanterns. In 1937 his father passed away, George the only remaining son in the area, took over the responsibility of the farm. In 1943, George married Isabella Harriet Start. To this marriage of Isabella, three children were born Shirley, David and Lynette.
In 1931 George became a member of the Church of Christ and was baptized into the church and has been faithful to his Lord. In 1936, George was chosen from his congregation to perform weddings and funerals. George was honoured to perform marriages in the district, something he had never thought possible. On April 16, 1977, George lost his wife Isabella with cancer. His son David continued to farm the home place. George continued to live on the farm until the fall of 1980 when he moved into Bengough. Through friends of his, George got in touch with a widow, Dorothy, living in Alibion, Idaho. They were married on June 23, 1984 at Rupert, Idaho and started a new life together in Bengough.
Predeceased by his parents, his first wife Isabella in 1977, his second wife Dorothy in 1998, one sister Myrel Grozell and three brothers Lawrence, Edgar and Roy, he is survived by three children: Shirley (Dennis) Mack of Calgary, Alta., David (Debra) Ashby of Bengough, Sk., and Lynette McClure (friend of Dale) of St. Albert, Alta., son-in-law Roy McClure of Calgary, Alta.; seven grandchildren: Cory, Kelly and Marnie-Jo Mack (fiance Steve); Nigel and Kayla McClure, Shane and Jenna Ashby; two step-children Keith (Harriet) Ames of Casper, Wyoming; Kenneth (Elma) Ames of Albion, Idaho; four step-grandchildren: Ken (Jamie) Ames, Gayle (Greg) Andress, Cecilia (Tom) Timmons, Brian (Janet) Ames; twelve step-great-grandchildren, six step-great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service was held in Bengough Community Hall, Bengough, Sask., on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Roy Bailey officiated.
